Chris Anderson’s MAZDA RX7

A month ago, during TX2K13 I met up with Chris and his RX7.  He had contacted us almost 6 months before about being featured on the site.  But his location and schedule never permitted to connect with Dereck Matherne in that area.  Chris was in Houston for TX2k13 and we took a break from the burnouts and highway runs to get some photos of his LS1 powered RX7.

Forever there will be  some that will hate the fact that this Japanese Sports car is powered by an american V8.  But Chris attempted to take the purists route and build the 13B Turbo to make around 350hp.  But in the process he just stopped with all that, and decided to take the alternate route.

Chris has always loved older Japanese classics.  He was always been fascinated with the FC chassis.  The power plant for his FC build was always optional and truthfully the LS swap is hard to deny.  On the outside the car still retains all its characteristics that makes it a classic for Mazda lovers.  From the rear you see the HKS Hi-Power Exhaust and the foot print of the 17×9 SSR’s (17×8.5 up front).

In the last few years the FC has started to be a favorite among the younger crowd looking for a cheap RWD Japanese car.  And it has become harder and harder to find a clean chassis.  Most have suffered the fate of the S13/14 and have just become beat up drift cars.  Chris has done the Mazda well and kept it very conservative by just adding the SHINE  Aero kit, and is lowered on STANCE GR+ Coilovers.

Under the hood is a 5.7L  LS1 with a RPM 3 Cams, LS6 Intake & heads.  Connected to a 4l60 transmission  and  363 gears/cobra rear end.  And if that is not enough there is a 125 shot of Nitrous just in case.

Nardi steering wheel, and Prosport gauges shown.

While Chris has retained the Japanese look for the FC, the car does give off the illusion that it is hiding a secret with its raked stance.  Whether you are a V8 swap lover or a rotary purists you have to love the overall look of the car from this angle.

My favorite photo from the set, check out more from the shoot here.  Thanks for looking!
