Robby Mundo’s Honda Civic

A few weeks ago Jon and I went up to South Carolina and got up with Robby for some photos.  We were not to familiar with area or how the landscape was in the area.  So I got in touch with the Mr. Stunna Ben Howard who is a resident of South Carolina.  He took us through a few back mountain roads in search of some nice spots.  We were supposed to be looking for photo locations but the drive through the mountains distracted us from even paying attention to any of the landscape.  We eventually ended up in Travelers Nest, South Carolina and found a real nice backdrop to play around with.  The sun was playing peek a boo all evening and the humidity was crazy high, but it was well worth the trip.

Robby came to own the civic in a trade for his 2004 Mazda Rx8 plus some extra cash to help the build get started.  Robby says he received the car with a long list of parts that he did not feel fit the bill for his type of build.  He was looking to build a road racing car with high quality proven parts.

Not to sound like a brand whore, but if you are gonna be pushing your car to the limit on a regular basis you need to be equipped with good parts that will put up with the abuse and perform.   Robby is all out function guy that has a love for racing and enjoying a car to the fullest.  Robby’s experience has been doing Auto X for the last  3 years.  He has won 1st place 2011 season in CCR region,  2nd place 2011 season in SCR region with a 2001 Subaru 2.5rs, and 1st place 2012 season in SCR region with Dylan Outlaw’s 2000 Acura Integra Type r.

The power plant is a B16A with Type R cams, and RMF header connected to a JDM GSR transmission.  Check out the signed Spoon valve cover, I wonder how much extra power that adds…haha

Robby is all function type of guy, and this car will take Robby from Auto X to road racing.  My appreciation for this car is the fact that it covers both sides of the spectrum.  Robby can get in the car and sit in the parking lot and be pretty, and also be taken out and put abused to the max on the track without falling apart.  My view on Civics is a bit different from majority of you all reading this, because I am on the outside looking in at something I am not too used to being around.  I have a special appreciation for a Honda built this way.

One of my pet peeves with some of the Honda builds is that people try to make it into something it is not instead of making it better at what it does.  The EG is a lightweight in factory form with a decent (at the time 92-95) amount of power from the factory.  What Robby has added to the car has done nothing but improve the car significantly, but still retain its normal characteristics.

Some people may not like the J’s Racing door racing plates, but I think its fitting on the car.  Robby made them into magnets so they can be taken off and on whenever needed.  The idea behind J’s Racing is “Just Enjoy It’ which fits the whole idea behind Robby’s build.

We demanded Robby be a model for one shot..haha.

Thank you to my beautiful wife Sherri for putting up with me and my hobby. My friends Dylan Outlaw and Tuan Chau for the support and helping me put this build together. My friends Jarret, Keagan, Sonny, Phong, Jon, TJ and Ben for being there with help and support.
