Dylan’s WRX
Don’t let the STi badge fool you, think of this more as… a STi resurrection. Dylan’s 2002 Impreza WRX makes driving practically an exciting experience.. Dylan’s Impreza generated a platform to build his ideal AWD daily driver. He ventured to create a striking appearance with originality and belligerent attitude in mind. This meant stepping away from the old bug-eye front end and moving up to a modern approach.
Stepping up from Mazda’s distinguished rotary-based RX8 to the boosted 2.0L four-banger was the biggest change for the owner. “Boost is the best part, I think it gives my car the agility I was looking for in my RX8!” says Dylan. After riding in the WRX, I will have to say I can agree with his statement. Power is at a sweet spot for the car, which even makes riding in the passenger seat amusing.
Dylan paid more attention to his exterior than anything. When the car was received, the previous owner chose a cheap Maaco paint job that didn’t do the car justice. Repainting was not an option and would now be his first priority. Leaning on the originality of the car, he chose a flat black paint job. The flat black contrasts nicely with the deep gold Rota wheels. Complimenting the wheels is a set of Megan coil overs providing a form-fitting stance that is just low enough for his taste.
The most unique part of Dylan’s WRX has to be his choice of body style. His wing, hood, and front end are all fabricated ’04 STi body parts. Substituting his body was the biggest change for the agile AWD sedan and gave Dylan the budget friendly, distinctiveness, and individuality he was looking for in his creation that he deemed “Subie dubie doo”.
