Marty’s 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS

This time around we met up with Marty and his 1986 Corolla GTS.  This is not your typical 6 month build, that was all over the internet.  This creation was 10 years in the making on a regular guys salary.  True testament of what a build is about, not about what everyone else is doing, and how much money you can throw at it.  But its about creating…

My first time seeing this Corolla was in North Carolina a year ago while at Eurowise for Wrong Fitment Krew’s annual meet.  Short after i spotted the car at our annual meet last year again.  I was still under the impression that the car was from North Carolina.  After seeing the car at 2 of our Southrnfresh Sunday meets, I was still unable to track down the owner.  So finally Marty brought the car out to The Varsity meet last month, and was introduced to him by Jon from Garage Zero, which we talked and setup a future photo session with the car.

Marty has a long racing history he raced Go Karts for 13 years , and has always had a passion for racing.  Which led to the motivation behind the scheme of the Corolla.  It began 10 years ago when Marty purchased the 1986 Corolla GTS, but the car did not start to take its major transformation until 4 years after.

The whole idea of this design was from Marty’s personal renderings along with inspiration from “Ironman” Ivan Stewart and Toyots 80′s race vehicles.  It was all brought to life by Nolan Menne who laid the paint scheme with precision.  The paint scheme flows throughout the door jambs  like it rolled off the factory that way.

The widebody takes the race car inspiration to a whole new level, and takes u s back to the days when seeing a Toyota in racing stripes was not a rare site.

The whole dashboard has been customized with race inspiration, and topped of with a Stack instrument cluster.

The power plant is a 4AGE Silvertop, mounted on the side of it is a GT25 turbo.  It has a mild head work and cams and makes around 220hp.  More than enough to get the featherweight up to speed.  Marty has not completed the build on the corolla yet.  He will be adding a cage, front spoiler, seats, and front splitter in the near future!

Marty’s creation has went from color pencil renderings to reality over 6 years.  It really reminds us what inspired us to buy the car we own, and why we pour all our money into these things.
