Grand Am Bosch 250 at VIR 2011
Virginia International Raceway is a track that demands attention and skill. It’s always a popular Grand Am event and with a $25,000 bounty in the air to any team who could take down the dominant Chip Ganassi Racing it was nothing less of a cage match.
The start of the race saw no real start at all, the first laps were run under caution due to extremely heavy rain which had been in the region all week. The race finally went green but was a slug fest the entire event with numerous spins, offs, and yellow flags. Almost half of the race was ran under yellow.
At the end of the messy day as the track dried out a race developed and on the last lap it was the #9 Action Express Racing Porsche Riley taking the win over the Ganassi car by a small .270 seconds. Third place went to the second Action Express Racing cars which managed a last lap pass.
In the GT ranks it was a Camaro on top at the end of the day with the young Jordan Taylor teamed up with Bill Lester who is now the first African American to win a Grand Am race. Second was another Camaro followed by the Turner Motorsport BMW.
It was a close battle all day long in Daytona Prototype with the #9 Action Express Racing car taking the overall win (sister car seen here).
VIR is an amazing track with beautiful rolling hills and a mix of tight corners and fast sweepers. Here the #9 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 rockets onto a straight away on way to a third place finish in GT.
Rain was the main concern at VIR early in the race. Here the #59 Brumos Porsche driven by Keen/Davis and soldiers on as the #07 Banner Racing Camaro takes a ride in the grass although they would fight back for a second place finish in GT.
The sun was shining for the podium ceremonies as the drivers celebrate a strong race, especially the Action Express Racing crew for taking the $25,000 reward.
