Petit Le Mans Preview : Downtown Atlanta
I woke up this morning, and like the most of you all I checked my missed calls and caught up on the Facebook world. I came across a post from Road Atlanta’s Facebook page saying that some Petit Le Mans cars will be on display for a few hours in Centennial Olympic Park. So I got my self together, and ran downtown to check out some of the cars on display.
Next week will be Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, and this will be my first time actually going and covering it in person. Part of the excitement is seeing history with the Delta Wing in action for the first time in the United States. Hopefully it will be able to compete without a hitch so we can truly see what it can do in competition. Here are a few of the photos from this mornings display.
One of the most popular cars is Bryan Sellers Porsche GT3 RSR.
One of the team members was giving a guy a tour of the car, like a salesman. I did not recognize the guy in the car, has to be someone important.

Another popular car was the Dempsey Racing Lola car.
I always get a reality check on what racers have to deal with when I look inside. It really takes a talented person to sit in this tight area for so long, with so much on the line, and pushing yourself at every turn.
One thing that I recently discovered is that Dempsey Racing is based in Georgia, and is home to a few ALMS cars. Hopefully we can get a chance to check out the facility in person one day. Check out Dempsey Racing
Now for the superstar of Petit Le Mans, The Delta Wing. This car has been a project that dates back to 2008. The first race of the Delta Wing was at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that ended way earlier than expected for the team after being involved in an accident.
I slightly listened in on their conversation, it sounded like a small pep talk.

The Delta Wing is powered by a 300hp turbocharged 1.6 liter engine.
I noticed that the Delta Wing has a conventional lug nut setup as opposed to a center lock nut.
As the display wrapped up, there was a group of kids hanging out on the car while mom snapped a photo. I am sure one of the kids will grow into a automotive love, and appreciate this photo. Check out the story of the Delta Wing here
