Liberty Walk Audi R8 Spyder
The spark that started this project was from a late night conversation at our Stancenation Atlanta Premeet last year. Superstar Customs and Butler Tire met and had a discussion about possibly working together on a few builds that they may have in the future.
Fast forward to late spring , they wanted to add something unique to his already impressive automotive collection. The owner already owning a R8 that had been twin turbocharged , this time the idea was something aimed to visually please.
They chose to go with the Liberty Walk wide body for this R8 build. The only problem is that they do not make a kit to specifically to fit the R8 Spyder (convertible). At that point the torch wass passed to Superstar Customs to make the kit work on the spyder.
The main body differences between the spyder and the standard roof option is the rear quarter panels. To fit the roof in the rear deck the quarter panels are flattened slightly over the standard model. So Superstar Customs had to modify pieces of the kit to fit properly.
Another element of a widebody is the fitment of the wheel and tires on the widened body. Which is were the experts at Butler Tire & Wheel step in to work their magic.
Custom built to spec 20″ Fully Brushed Savini Forged SV75 combined with Michelin Pilot 4S was the choice.
The R8 sits on Airlift Performance air suspension to make sure the kit stays off the ground when in motion, but lays on the ground when parked. That task was set to The Auto Lounge which shares space with Superstar Customs.
The owner is very particular on fine details, so Markland Designs of Atlanta orchestrated the trunk layout and design. Completely fabricating the panels from scratch to hide everything, but making sure the admirable air suspension components were exposed .
Brushed tanks and hard air lines flowed along with the brushed clear wheel finish. The tanks/compressors and manifold is designed to be removed all together in about 10 minutes.
The final product was a perfectly executed piece of art. The R8’s body lines accepts the LB widebody like it was made from the factory. But the most impressive part of this build is the team work and camaraderie between everyone involved.
