Save Drifting in Atlanta update…
As you may or may not know, as we get ready for Formula Drift this weekend here in Atlanta, we are fighting a battle against the city council. The drifting scene in Atlanta thrives off of events held at Turner Field, and it is being targeted and pushed out of the city and not even given a fair chance. So with the help of Atlanta’s close knit automotive community, there was a campaign started via Facebook, and it has spread like wildfire to 6000+ signatures helping the fight against this unfair attack on the drifting scene.
In a matter of 2 days, word spread to WSB-TV news here in Atlanta and one of the anchors, Ryan Young, took the story and gave the community a voice on the local news. All happening within a days notice, it began with some interviews and was followed up with a call back from the station to return to do another report on it at the news station for an exhibition on what it is and to show the world that it is safe and controlled. I just so happened to be at Garage Zero , and Kelly Lewis (who has led the campaign), sent back word to the shop that we need to contact some drivers and get down to the station asap and be on live TV. It was a great thing to personally see this all go from Facebook to the local news within 2 days. I brought the camera with me and got some video and photos of the whole afternoon that I will be able to share with you all tomorrow night! So if you have not checked out the Facebook group that’s 8,000 strong, please go and sign the petition and send emails and get this thing stopped!
