The Underdog

It’s not easy being an owner of Honda’s newest generation of cars.  Sure, there are plenty of S2000 and TL-S guys getting respect, but that’s not who I’m talking about.  I’m thinking about the guys that are driving EP3’s, RSX’s,  Fits, and most recently, CR-Z’s.  No matter how great your car is, people would usually rather see an Integra Type R, a K-swapped Civic, or an original CRX.  In a world where Honda has historically been the underdog, we are the underdog of the underdogs.

Freddy, a Texas native, drives a 2007 Honda Fit and it looks amazing; not amazing for a Fit, but as a top shelf Honda.  He has crafted his car using a combination of proven aftermarket manufacturers and custom work that he did himself.  Lowered on Tein S-Tech’s, Freddy mounted a rare set of Possum Jenkin’s Widened Steelies (15×8 +12) wrapped in mildly stretched Kumho Ecsta tires.  The result is a much needed breath of fresh air.

The outside of this Fit has been blessed by the house of Mugen, with Freddy rounding out the look with additional pieces from Kenstyle, JDM Honda, and a homemade Home Depot lip.  Everything has been covered with Honda’s Satin Silver Metallic, giving the Fit a classy, OEM+ finish.

Too often Honda owners spend all their time and money modding the outside of their car and neglect their own living quarters.  Freddy is not one of those people.  After filling the interior with the best JDM bits (including the incredibly awesome OEM armrest!), he wrapped it all in bright red Bride fabric, and installed a custom beer tap shifter.  A collection of C-Pillar bars keeps things stiff for the handling side of the equation.  The mix strikes a perfect balance of style, comfort, performance, and ingenuity.

So remember, the next time you pass an EP3, or park next to a clean Fit like Freddy’s, that even though we might not rev to 8500 rpm, or have the legendary double wishbone suspension, we are still Honda’s. Underdogs just like you.
