Petit Le Mans: Road Atlanta 2012 – Thursday Afternoon practice session

Back with the day 2 practice session of the 2012 Petit Le Mans @ Road Atlanta.  As the big race draws closer, things get a lot more tense and  the pressure is on to get the cars dialed in so it can  be ready for Saturday.

Wednesday Testing Session

The big story of the day was if the Delta Wing team was gonna be able to get the car back out to practice or not.  AS you can see from the video above, the wreck was pretty violent, and we can only imagine how much worse it could have been if it was not for the safety equipment.  I could not even imagine sliding upside down on my head down a race track @ around 100+ mph.

The Delta Wing was back in showroom condition ready to hit the track like yesterday never happen.

The  #035 HPD ARX-03b  finished the session with a 1:13.182 , powered by the Honda HR28TT motor which is a 2.8l Twin Turbo v6.

Backstage shot of the Corvette Racing Team collecting their track data from the practice session.  This is part of the racing that is seldom seen, these guys work just as hard as the drivers to make sure their team gets the victory.  All this equipment also puts a lot of pressure on the drivers, being that every movement they make on the track is calculated and brought to the teams eyes for observation.

Patrick Dempsey about to head out for some practice runs.

Most of you all may or may not know that Mr. Dempsey is a pretty accomplished actor but still finds time to have a very successful racing career.  Something about actors that spend their free time racing just seems like the coolest thing in the world.  It maybe because most of us would more than likely do the same if we were actors.

By the look of Mr. Dempsey’s face  it did not look like the team was having a good practice session.

The team did finish the practice  last with a 1:15.763 in the #27 P2  Lola B12/87 car, hopefully they can do better in qualifying today.
