Downing Atlanta Visit

Paul at MAZMART contacted me a few weeks back to inform me that the 787 was in town and is on its way back home soon.  It was such a pleasure to be able to get so much personal time with such a racing icon.   Also to our excitement the garage was full of a few in house projects, and a few of Jim Downing’s race cars.

If you have never heard of Downing Atlanta or the history of Downing than CLICK HERE for a quick crash course.  No matter how many times i go to this place its always a special experience with all the history here.

Here is Mazda’s 787 race car.

Carbon and Kevlar chassis designed with precise calculations by Nigel Stroud

18 in x 12 in front & 18 in x 14 Volk Racing wheels in rear keep the 787 in complete control on every corner.  And the 14 inch carbon brakes bring it all to a stop.

The heart of the beast is the 700hp 4 rotor R26B.  Also, Mazda used its own telescopic intake runners on this motor that changed in size depending on rpm speed.

Jim Downing’s Rx3 race cars were also in house fresh off their appearance at The Mitty at Road Atlanta.

There was also a customer’s fully restored low mileage RX3-SP in showroom condition!

Another one of Jim Downing’s Rotary race cars being prepared for its next event.  Rick Engman and Richard King telling us some small details of the cars setup.

Here is a short video of Rick Engman cranking up the 787 for us.

Thanks to MAZMART for the experience and time again!
