Co’s Mazda RX-7 Turbo II

Its been a long time since I was able to feature a vehicle.  But I spotted Co’s RX7 at the Vintage Class Meet back in January .   What I liked most about the FC was the raw style of it.  Even with the raw unique styling it still classic and true to the Japanese styling.   Back in January I was trying to figure out ways to seal up the sunroof on my Protege 5.  After starring at his for a few minutes it sparked the motivation to go home and start putting mine together.  It was a small piece of motivation, but it sparked a long list of self made projects with my build.

At some point all of us have builds that inspire you to reach within and get creative.  Co has took that to the fullest by doing everything himself in the comfort of his own garage.  The hood vents were created using simple everyday things, but when done right it looks like something out of a parts catalog.

The taillights seem so intricate and complex.  But simply shaving the rear panel and installing a pair of mirage lights transforms the rear of the car.  I thought the rear panel was some sort of conversion kit.  But Co told me it was just a idea he came up with, and he executed it.

Co took ownership of this car 18 years ago with about 80k miles on it.  And it started its life out as a drift car, but after an accident the car was transformed to a Auto X car which he continues till this day.

The heart of the Turbo II  is the turbocharged 13B engine.  Which has been nothing but reliable for Co since he purchased it.  Rotaries are special engineering marvels that feed on high revving and excitement.  So its not surprising that it has held together all these years.

The FC rides on a set of custom built Redshift Motorsports Competition Coilovers.  He explained to me that Redshift takes BC coilovers and upgrades them to a 100% fully customized spec to suit your needs.  The best part about it is that any vehicle that BC makes coilovers for Redshift can personally customize it to exactly what you need.

This RX7 appeals to me so much, because the last few years my personal build has taught me so much. I have forced myself to learn new skills and experiment with new ideas.  Even with the failures lessons are learned.  It has made me jaded towards people who choose the safe route instead of doing what they really want because they are afraid of what others may think.
